A Subtle Factor That Keeps Witnesses Silenced
by freemindfade inhad an interesting thought this morning.
when a witness is 'in' they think everyone else is following and trying there best all in unity.
i believe the reality is there are a lot of us 'in' who know different.

I had doubts for years but would only say things to my husband about it. When I finally started researching after reading many books on other cults and seeing how they are just the same in many aspects I couldn't continue to go to the meetings because I started having panic attacks whenever I walked in the hall. It does take courage to walk away from everyone and free yourself from their destructive mind control. I will never regret walking away because it was taking a huge toll on my health. I understand why some stay but it has to be very hard on them mentally and emotionally to continue week after week playing the WTBTS's game. I believe they would lose a lot of members if they did away with their shunning policy, it is the only thing that keeps a lot of them in. -

15 Years of Jehovahs-Witness.com
by Simon inyes, today is the forum's 15th birthday!.
i never thought for one moment that it would survive this long or have so many people post so many great subjects over the years.. it is still humbling when i get pm's or emails from people expressing how the site has helped them and of course thanks goes to all the posters who have shared their experiences and make helpful and supportive comments to others who are in the sometimes difficult process of learning the real truth about 'the truth'.. the site has gone through several different incarnations over the last 15 years running on different platforms, different databases and different hosts but we've been able to keep all the old topics.
the current site is still being developed and i'm hoping to push another major upgrade soon.. i also may have some other news to share soon about the future of the site so stay posted.. until then, here's the the next 15 years!

Happy Birthday Simon and Angharad and thank you for this wonderful site. I have been out for three years and the first two years I was glued to this site. It helped me in so many ways and it taught me to think outside the WT box. I had my doubts and started reading different books and then COC which lead me to this forum. I have read so much but this site really educated me about the WT. I came out two months before I found out I had breast cancer so I was left with almost no friends, just a few family memebers and my therapist to help me through and thank goodness my husband came out with me. We truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the help you made available and the other wonderful posters on this site. Life is truly wonderful if you educate yourself and break free from the chains of the WTBTS. -

the question was "why can't jw's have beards?
" i read the responses and realized the truth in them.

Welcome, I am glad you are happy and you were young when you got out. Life is good without the control of that wacky religion. -

Has This Site Ever Hurt You In Your Journey Out Of The JW Religion?
by minimus inthis site has gone through many metamorphosis over the years.
i believe it is a kinder, less edgy place tan it was a few years ago.
i wonder how many people were helped versus turned off by this place.

It has been a good experience for me. I haven't been on much lately but I think it is because I am in a good place but when I first got out it was a life saver for me. I appreciate all of the hard work Simon and his wife do to keep this site up and running. I know there are those who have gotten into arguments and left or had their feelings hurt by others but if there is a topic I am not interested in I just scroll over it instead of getting into the drama. I wish more people would realize that in life you are not going to get along with everyone and the ones you don't want to be friends with you just keep moving because there are a lot of great people on here to let a few spoil the experience for you. Just because most of us were JW's or still are does not mean we all think alike, will be friends nor are we in the same place with our recovery. I belong to a few ex JW sites and since I faded 3 years ago so many have popped up. This was the first site I joined and the only one I was on the first year. They all have their pros and cons but for me this site has had a lot of good information and it got me on the right track which I am grateful for. -

Want to hear something funny ?
by troubled mind inmy husband just won the city wide holiday light display for christmas i am so proud .
just a few short years ago i was the one that put a strand of white lights around the porch railing ,and a couple of lighted deer in the yard ....that brought the elders around real quick (after three years of silence ) at that time my husband was still holding onto the notion his faith was not bond to a cult .
it didn't take long after the 'loving sheparding call' for him to see things in another light.

Looks so festive and congratulations! My husband has the Christmas spirit this year. This is our third year celebrating it but the first year we traveled and did not do lights. The second year we did the inside but didn't show the lights in the window because we were fading at the time. This year I wrote a DA letter because I did not want them breathing down my back because I decorated the front porch and the whole house. My husband hasn't turned in a letter so they could try to come after him but we could care less what they do. Enjoy your Holiday!

Mine was June 6, 1986 at the Houston Astrodome. I was 31 and had studied for three or four years and I felt trapped at that time. If only I were the person I am today I would have walked away.

Im still young (19)....just reading Crisis of Conscious
by Blackfalcon98 inhi guys, ive finally got a copy of coc from my local library, im on page 120ish and im really enjoying it!
the thing that gets me now that im enlightened is how little the rank and file know about anything this organazation does!
everything is so secretive and covered up behind a curtain.

I was angry when I first read it because at age 56 years I wasted 30 years of my life in this cult. I have done a lot of reading and research since my husband and I walked away 3 years ago and I feel so much better now. Keep reading and researching, I found JWfacts.com very good along with JWSurvery.org. There are some YouTube channels I enjoy too. This site also helped me when I was waking up.
You are young and so fortunate you woke up now, you have the opportunity to have a very fulfilling life ahead of you. I hope you are considering getting a college education or you have a good trade you have learned.

You brought out some very good points. I never see JW's around town but I am going to keep this one in my thoughts so I can possibly use it if I see one.
